The Westchester Section of the National Council of Negro Women is a voluntary nonprofit membership organization helping women to improve the quality of life for themselves, their families, and the community. Through its national affiliate organizations and 300 community-based sections, NCNW has an international outreach to four million women, working to encourage peaceful solutions to concerns facing African-American communities.

Our Beginnings

On July 26, 1955, nine women met and organized a section of the National Council of Negro Women for Westchester County, N.Y. The Westchester Section was chartered on August 29, 1955 by the National President and CEO of NCNW, Vivian C. Mason. For more than 50 years, the Westchester Section has continued to grow and thrive.

Vision

The vision of NCNW programs are grounded on a foundation of critical concerns that are “NCNW Priorities.” Our organization promotes education; encourages entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic stability; educates women about health and promotes healthcare access, promotes civic engagement, advocates for sound public policy, social justice and the coalition of African American civic organizations that can work collectively toward the uplift of our communities.
